Malop St, Geelong, Victoria
Nestled in a corner of Downes Lane, within the bustling heart of Geelong CBD, lies The Plant - a sanctuary for respite and rejuvenation.
This architectural gem offers a multi-functional space designed to cater to the needs of both locals and travellers alike. At its core, The Plant features a café, ideal for quick respites amid busy schedules, alongside private resting pods where visitors can enjoy a brief power nap or find a moment of solace.
For those journeying from afar, The Plant provides short and long-term stay apartments. These accommodations offer a serene retreat within Geelong’s vibrant centre, ensuring comfort and convenience for extended stays.
Inspired by a modular design approach, The Plant’s architecture begins with a fundamental 1x2 block structure. Through strategic subtraction and height adjustments, the facade takes shape with a gentle slope, minimizing direct sunlight and creating a setback from the streets. This design not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also optimizes environmental comfort.
Each floor of The Plant is meticulously planned to accommodate diverse individual needs, seamlessly integrating private spaces with areas dedicated to communal use, fostering a harmonious blend of privacy and community engagement.

GROUND FLOOR PLAN

The ground floor connects to the street through two entrances: one leading from the alley into the foyer, and the other from Dowens Lane into a café.

1ST FLOOR PLAN
The first floor features short-stay apartments situated directly above the café, providing convenient access. Additionally, it includes two temporary resting pods for visitors to use for brief periods.

2ND FLOOR PLAN

The second floor is designed for individuals who plan to stay in the apartment for an extended period. It is equipped with a small kitchen and offers a more private location compared to the short-stay units. Additionally, an open space is included, allowing for visitors and occasional events.

ROOF TOP PLAN

The rooftop is divided into two sections by a pathway that connects the stairs and the elevator. The first section, located closer to the street, is designated for activities like yoga and similar exercises. On the opposite side, an outdoor resting pod is situated away from the street, offering an unobstructed view of the surrounding streets within the site.
